Baby Mama - Can a Mother and Surrogate Mother Survive Pregnancy?

It use to be that movies were based on books, and then adapted into television series.


Now it seems that the small screen is proving to be the launching pad for big screen movies.


From the producers of SNL comes the romantic comedy Baby Mama to be followed next month by another TV to big screen movie Sex and the City opening on Memorial Day in the states, just in time for the summer movie season.


Baby Mama is truly a New York based film; in fact, its world premier will be held at the opening night for New York City's Tribeca Film Festival on April 23, 2008.


How New Yorkish can this film be?


Well, it stars Tina Fey, former head writer and performer on Saturday Night Live and Amy Poehler who just happens to be a current SNL cast member.

The Baby Mama was written and directed by Michael McCullers a former sketch writer for SNL and produced the Lorne Michaels SNL creator.


With a procession of actresses either having children or adopting, how right on can this movie be.


Well, very right on.


Tina Frey who plays the career woman who suddenly realizes that her biological clock is running out of time, carefully weights all the options on having a child.

As successful single businesswoman Kate Holbrook played by Tina Fey has long put her career ahead of her personal life but discovers at age 37 that there is something missing from her life - a baby.


After visiting with fertility doctors she learns that her chance of having a baby are a million to one, until she hits on the idea of using a surrogate mother to carry the baby.







Kate get a South Philly working girl Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) as the surrogate mother and all seems to be going as planned with Angie pregnant, until Angie arrives on her door with no place to go.


In a typical odd couple fashion, the organized Kate must play mother to both her baby and the surrogate mother.


From insuring that she eats right, remember your eating for you and the baby to baby proofing the apartment to the point that Angie cannot figure how to use anything, the dichotomy of personalities creates some very funny moments.


Will these two opposite personalities make it to term - well, your just have to watch and find out in the Baby Mama, which opens to the general public on Friday, April 25, 2008.

Q & A With Tina Fey of '30 Rock'

Tina Fey talks with MSNBC's Dan Fleschner about her hit show '30 Rock', Oprah, stay at home moms and Will Farrell.



Q: You've had a lot of celebrity guests on "30 Rock," including our own Al Roker (Watch Video) in an upcoming episode. If you could get anyone to appear on the show, who would it be?

Tina Fey: I'd love to get Oprah on the show. We contacted her about doing the show, and we were told that she was in South Africa for three weeks. So I was like, "Well you can tell Oprah to call me when she gets back." We ended up getting Lester Holt to do it -- that's still flattering for Lester, right? Being second in line behind Oprah?

I'd like to get Ben Affleck. He's a pretty funny guy. Maybe when we hit it big, he'll do it.

Q: When you walk by the NBC Experience Store here in New York or visit www.nbcuniversalstore.com, you find that there is no "30 Rock" merchandise out there. What's the deal?

Tina Fey: They keep telling us that it's in the works. We keep saying, "Can't we just have a shirt with the logo on it?" I mean, high school choirs get this done. We have shirts, jackets and bags for our crew -- you can have these things made in a second. Who are the t-shirt people around here?

Q: We had the author of a new book called "The Feminine Mistake" on the show earlier this week. She writes about how young mothers are deciding to stay at home to raise their kids more and more -- and that by depending on their husbands financially, those women are opening themselves to potential problems down the road. You're a working mother of a 19-month-old -- what do you think about this issue?

Tina Fey: The ideal situation for a parent is one that no one has -- having a fulfilling job that requires you to work three days a week. It's better for the parents, because they get to spend time with the children and also have a source of pride and achievement -- and income -- outside the home.

I worked as a registrar for a day care center in Illinois, and I would see a lot of two-parent families in which both parents worked. For them to both have jobs and put their kids in full-time day care, they were almost losing money out of the situation. So working full-time isn't necessarily the best financial option.

I guess what I would tell women is to get their education first, before having kids. That way they can keep their options open down the road. I also think that it shouldn't necessarily be an issue just for women, that men should be part of the stay-home discussion too.

Q: Have you seen Will Ferrell's movie "Blades of Glory" yet, and was Meredith a fool for getting on the ice with him?

Tina Fey: I unfortunately haven't had a chance to see it yet...Will Ferrell is a dangerous man. If he thinks you're in his way in show business, he will crack your head open. He's the Jeff Gillooly of comedy.

Paris Hilton Takes a Beating

"The ongoing feud between Paris Hilton and former Miss USA Shanna Moakler has gone beyond the level of “No she didn’t,” climbing into “Oh, yes she did” territory.

When X17 asked Shanna if she had anything to say to Paris Wednesday night, Shanna advised her frenemy to "take her Valtrex." (Valtrex is an anti-herpes drug.)"


Then Tina really gets in some good jabs..



"Tina Fey, the former head writer of Saturday Night Live, and creator and star of the new NBC show, 30 Rock, dropped by Howard Stern’s Sirius Satellite radio show on Wednesday to share her thoughts on various past SNL guest hosts.
She revealed that Paris Hilton asked the writers to make a skit in which she could play Jessica Simpson "because I hate her…she's fat.” Fey also claims that Paris was so self-centered that staffers had a bet going on as to whether she would ask anyone something personal (like "How are you?") during her week on-set. They only lost when she asked, “Is Maya Rudolph Italian?" (she's half Black, half Jewish).



On Paris Hilton:
HS: What is Paris Hilton like?
TF: She's a piece of sh-t. The people at SNL were like maybe she'll be fun, maybe she won't take herself so seriously. She takes herself so seriously! She's unbelievably dumb and so proud of how dumb she is. She looks like a tranny up close.
HS: Was she bad on SNL, was she hard to deal with?
TF: She was awful. People never come in and say "I'm not doing that." So, this guy Jim Downey wrote a really really funny sketch, it was supposed to be Lorne Michaels just finding out that she had a sex tape and telling her she couldn't host the show because SNL has standards... So she was like "I'm not doing it!" and refused to come out of her dressing room. Also, you would walk down the hall and find what just looked like nasty wads of Barbie hair on the stairs... Her hair is like a Fraggle.
HS: Did she give you ideas for sketches?
TF: Yeah, she wanted to make fun of all the girls she hates. She was like "I want to play Jessica Simpson, I hate her." She would come in the room and say "you should do a show about Jessica Simpson because she's fat."
HS: What was the bet you guys had going about her?
TF: The cast had a bet if she would ask anyone on the cast anything about themselves, you know like how are you? where are you from? anything. I think Seth Meyers won because at one point, she asked him if Maya Rudolf was Italian."
