R. Kelly Writes Song About Virginia Tech Tragedy

I'm certainly not a big fan of R. Kelly's but I guess even men who like kiddie porn can be empathetic every once in awhile.

"Rise Up" is a new song written by R. Kelly about the shootings at Virginia Tech.

The single will be available digitally May 15, and 100 percent of the net proceeds from its sale will go to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, said Jive Records, Kelly's record label.

Kelly wrote the inspirational ballad after watching the events unfold on television while he was on tour.

The lyrics include the lines: "Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong."

The Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund was created to provide assistance to the victims of the families, as well as grief counseling and other needs for those affected by the shootings.

I Love Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho blogged about the VT tragedy and how a lot of emphasis has put on the shooter and his ethnicity, which is so true.

I just loved this and had to pass it on.

Whenever anything really bad happens around Korean people, that is when I would like to hide, go to Hawaii and eat spam sushi until it blows over. I don’t want to comment on it because I don't want to escalate the situation and I don't want to implicate myself in it. I don't want to 'come out' as Asian because therein lies a tremendous responsibility that I never volunteered for, that I don't have any real control over, and that is as mysterious to me as it is to someone who isn't Asian.

So here is the whole terrible mess of the shootings at Virginia Tech. I look at the shooter's expressionless face on the news and he looks so familiar, like he could be in my family. Just another one of us. But how can he be us when what he has done is so terrible? Here is where I can really envy white people because when white people do something that is inexplicably awful, so brutally and horribly wrong, nobody says – “do you think it is because he is white?” There are no headlines calling him the “White shooter." There is no mention of race because there is no thought in anyone's mind that his race had anything to do with his crime.

So much attention is focused on the Asian-ness of the shooter, how the Korean community is reacting to it, South Korea's careful condolences and cautiously expressed fear that it will somehow impact the South Korean population at large.

What is lost here is the grief. What is lost is the great, looming sadness that we should all feel over this. We lose our humanity to racism, time and time again.

I extend my deepest sympathies to all those who lost their loved ones, their children, their friends and family, in this unimaginable tragedy. I send them all the love I have in me, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Remembering The Virginia Tech Victims

All celebrity gossip aside, I wanted to take this opportunity to once again send condolences to the students, as well as family and friends of the 32 victims.

The Virginia Tech Massacre

In case you haven't heard, there was a terrible shooting spree that took place this morning at one of the dorm's on campus and spread hours later to classrooms.


33 people including the gunman are dead.

I just wanted to take a moment and express my condolences for the families and friends of the victims of todays shootings at Virginia Tech.

Sarah Ferguson Says She Hasn't Spoken With the Princes Since Her Falling Out With Diana

The REAL Duchess, Fergie, real name Sarah Ferguson, (whew) says she has not spoken with Prince WIlliam or Prince Harry since a year before Diana died.

That's about the time that she and Diana got into a fight and never spoke again.

Fergie says about meeting again with Diana's sons, "I'd like to - we had lovely times together - but I don't want either thinking that I'm trading on my friendship with them, pushing myself on them, though I'll always stand by the boys 100 per cent..They've grown up exceptionally well - leaders, role models."


Fergie claims that their tiff may have started after she mentioned in an autobiography that she got planter's warts from wearing Diana's shoes, although she doesn't really know for sure.

"And the saddest thing, at the end, we hadn't spoken for a year, though I never knew the reason, except that once Diana got something in her head... I tried, wrote letters, thinking whatever happened didn't matter, let's sort it out.

"And I knew she'd come back. In fact, the day before she died she rang a friend of mine and said, 'Where's that Red? I want to talk to her'."

Brandy To Be Charged With Manslaughter?

That's what the California Highway Patrol is recommending.

They have referred the case to the city attorney's office for review.

Brandy was involved in a freeway crash last month in which she was at fault. Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, a Los Angeles mother of one, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and died the next day.


"The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter," Nick Velasquez, city attorney spokesman said.

Angelina Jolie's Mother Dies

Marcheline Bertrand, Angelina Jolie's mother, has died of cancer at the age of 56.


Angelina, her brother, James Haven, and Brad Pitt were at the hospital (Cedars-Sinai Medical Center) when she passed away.

Marcheline had been fighting cancer for more than seven years.

A private funeral was planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Cancer is such a terrible disease. I feel for Angelina and her brother. Let's hope the press gives them space at this time of grief.

'Alpha Dog' Impacting Victims Families

The mother of the boy who was killed to settle his brothers drug debts has attempted suicide three times since the films release.

His killer, Jesse James Hollywood, is the main character in the new movie, 'Alpha Dog'. Susan Markowitz is devastated by the film that portrays the events that led up to her son, Nicholas Markowitz's, murder.

She is pointing the finger at the film's director, accusing him of profiting off of her son's death.

Director Nick Cassavetes says his film was not made to offense or to affect the outcome of the trial. But you notice he doesn't mention the profiting part.

"The last thing we would want to do is prejudice a trial or bring unnecessary suffering to anyone. I don't believe this movie does that. Real life is way more important than movies."

Jeff Markovitz, the boy's father, says of his wife,
"She is so tortured by what happened that she has tried to take her own life. The last thing that either of us want is to see this picture.

"How would any loving parent feel about a Hollywood movie that glamorizes their son's death and allows celebrities to cash in on a brutal, evil murder?"
